Happy First Day of School. Or, not so happy.
Yes, the kids all officially started school today. Ughhhhhhh. Asher and Graham are taking independent courses through Ivy Tech Charter School in Moorpark, CA. They started their zoom calls today. I have to say, today was super frustrating. It was hard figuring everything out. Like, how to pull up their class lists, how to get going on their work etc etc. Honestly, the most frustrating one was seminary for Asher. It took us forever to figure out how to get on the weird program that the stake is using for seminary. Eventually we figured it out. We were all in a big need for recess after all that. I started Pepper and Taj as well. I am private schooling them. Pepper is researching and studying all the details about the Mississippi River. Taj is working on his Kindergarten workbooks. I know school is important but I have to say, it is a fun killer. We did school all day because we had to iron out the kinks. I'm sure that as we get in a better schedule it won't take all day.
Recess:)))

I walked in the bathroom this morning and I found these 😄 Pepper and Taj decided to prank me and put these all over the toilet seat. I screamed, then laughed at how funny they are:)))
Our evening family activity was to go walk down the Trail of Hope. Here is a brief explanation of what the Trail of Hope is: When the saints moved here to Nauvoo, they worked so hard to establish a place of peace to live in. At this point in their lives, they had already suffered so much persecution from angry mobs that hated them because of their religion. Many lives had already been lost from senseless killers. The saints worked very hard to build up a secure town here in Nauvoo. They built homes and shops and put all their hearts into the building of the temple. Unfortunately, Joseph and Hyrum Smith were murdered in cold blood and the persecution of the saints continued. Eventually Brigham Young (the next prophet) received revelation that the saints needed to leave their beautiful Nauvoo, their temple, and move west towards a land of peace and security, IE Zion. The saints didn't have long at all to gather their things before thy crossed the Mississippi towards Utah. The Trail of Hope is the trail that the saints walked down to cross the Mississippi River from Nauvoo. Along the trail, there are plaques that tell stories from some of the people that left and crossed the planes to Utah. The pictures below are a bit mixed up. Some are of the Trail of Hope and some are of the Women's Garden. Others are of the Mississippi River.

This is where the saints crossed the Mississippi River,

We have loved our 2 or 3 visits to Nauvoo. Last time there was a town meeting with the LDS Bishop and representatives from about 7 other churches who put on a panel discussion. It was very interesting. I hope the home schooling improves. I'm sure you and the kids will get into a routine. When are you going to Missouri? Besides church sites, be sure to go Hannibal if you can to see Mark Twain's home and cave (think Huck Finn, Tom Sawyer).
