Saturday November 28, 2020 Key West

How about a beautiful day in Key West?
Today was a dream!!

The only way to drive down to Key West is by taking the Overseas Highway. This highway starts in Key Largo and extends all the way down to Key West.  It runs about 100 miles.  We jumped on the Overseas Highway early this morning and drove over an hour down to Key West.  As we drove, we had the Pacific Ocean on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other.  The highway only had one lane on  each side so as we drove, we stayed behind our line of traffic while enjoying the view.

It was  difficult to drive our dually in Key West.  The streets aren't very wide.  Scotty did a fine job driving and not hitting any cars:)). Then came the challenge of the parking garage.  While we were driving up the ramps in the garage, there were points where we only had 3 inches of clearance from the top of our truck.  It was crazy. We decided to park on the top level.  Once we were parked, we ran down to our first activity.

Snorkeling!!!!
We took a boat out about 50 minutes off the coast of Key West out to the coral reef.  There we were blessed to snorkel for an hour.  This was a once in a life time opportunity for us.  It was amazing!!!

We had the option to walk down the stairs to the ocean or to jump off the side of the boat.  Guess which one all my family did?  Yup, we ALL jumped, even Taj!!!!  The water was about 80 degrees and the waters were pretty calm.  We saw a ton of fish.  It was so great!!

Now for the bad news. . . .
I was planning on taking my phone into the water to take pictures while we were snorkeling.  Scotty told me not to take my phone because he was positive that I would lose my phone.  I put up a fuss because I am a Japanese Tourist (hahahah) and I take a lot of pictures. I wanted someone to have a phone for pictures.   Scotty said that he would take his phone and take  pictures so that I wouldn't lose my phone.  Well guess what????  He lost his phone. Some how it slipped out of his pocket and sunk about 30 feet down to the bottom of the coral reef in Key West.  Oof.  So I have no pictures of us snorkeling. I guess that means that we need to go snorkeling again. hahahah

This is where we were snorkeling.  Isn't is absolutely gorgeous.

After our snorkeling adventure, we walked around town and enjoyed the Key West vibe.

Best ice cream ever!! It was at this point that we got a call from Doctor  Royal Dean.  Back story - After Scotty had dropped his phone, he dove down like 10 times, trying to find his phone.  While doing that, his ears started acting weird.  When he tried to equalize his ears, they would just bubble, and his eyes were all swollen.  We wanted to talk to Royal just to make sure that everything was OK. He said that as long as Scotty doesn't have pain then he is probably OK.  Thank you for the call Royal.  We love the Dean family!!

This is where we were today!!

We had to walk down and get a picture with the Southernmost Point marker.  There were so many people there.  We didn't want to wait in line for a picture so we did a picture from the side of it.

There are roosters and chickens roaming around Key West everywhere.  It's so crazy.  We thought it was so funny to see wild roosters crossing the streets.  Guess how many lame "Why did the rooster cross the street" jokes we made up.

You're in Key West!!! What are you going to do????
I'm not sure what you would do but we hit the local skatepark. This park was actually super cool.  I was great for scooters and for doing tricks.  Kids had a great time.

Taj and I wanted to see how far away from home we were.

Our next stop was to the beach to watch the sun set.  Absolutely beautiful. How could a place to this gorgeous??

Our last stop for the day was to Kermit's for a key lime pie and to see the Christmas lights across the street.  Then we had to go back to the trailer.  We were all so tired but man we could have stayed here a week and loved it.  I still seems so unreal to us that we spent the day in Key West.  We feel so very blessed!!

Taj was modeling his new shirt and backpack after a shower to get all the sand off of him.

  1. I did the math -2,935 miles from my house.
Was the phone ever recovered? I hope Scotty's ears are better.
How did you navigate getting your trailer out of the parking structure?
Safe travels. I continue to be amazed at all you are seeing and doing.
