Tuesday April 6, 2021- Hawaii Volcano National Park

Here are some pictures I took this morning on my run.

Hawaii Volcano National Park lies on the east side of the island.  We are on the west side.  Today we drove about 2 hours to go visit the NP.  It was so worth the drive.  The volcano was last active in 2018 although, it was flowing today.  We were able to walk around the crater of the volcano and see steam coming out due to the lava.  We also stopped at steam vents to feel the hot, humid steam that the lava produced.

The crater.

Steam vent.

The pictures are all out of order but basically we did four hikes today.  The first one was down to the floor of the crater.  We got to walk across the bottom floor of old, hardened lava.  The second hike was down to the Thurston Lava Tube.  We got to walk inside of a lava tube.  The third hike was over to see old petroglyphs on the lava rocks. The last hike was out at the coast to see an arch made of lava.  This park is COOL!!!  The lava is so interesting.  You can see lava from all different eruption times.  Some points you could see the clear path the lava took all the way down to the ocean.  Very impressive.

It rained on us so we got these ponchos to keep us dry!

The year Scotty was born;))

After all the fun, we were hungry.  On our route home we found L & L Hawaiian BBQ.  Ya, this place got a .5 star from us.  We didn't like it.  Haahhha.  It's all good.  Now we know:)
