Monday 26, 2021 - Travel Day to San Francisco

Early this morning we left Yosemite and traveled towards San Francisco.  Normally it would have taken us 3-4 hours to get to our next campground, but, Scotty had a lot of video calls today that we had to stop for.  Our first stop was at a truck stop.  We backed right into a spot and stayed there for about 2 hours.

The timing of our next stop put us at an outdoor mall.  Guess what store was in this mall area?? A Bass Pro Shop.  Asher really wanted to go get a new hat since his last hat went for a swim down the waterfalls by Bass Lake.  He asked me if he could get two colors of hats. I told him that he could pick one color and it couldn't be green (wink wink for my dad).  Asher picked a navy blue hat.

I saw this. My mom's name is Traveler!!!!

After all of Scotty's video calls had finished, we were finally free to finish our journey today.

In San Francisco, there are only two rv parks that we could have picked to stay at.  One of them didn't have any sites long enough for us.  So we had no choice but to stay at Candlestick RV Park.  I didn't read the reviews online about this park before we booked it.  Maybe I should have.

As we drove off of the 101 N. we took a small back road that led to the rv park.  The entire road was lined with rv's that clearly belonged to homeless people.  The rv's were very old and broken down.  Trash was everywhere and it was bad.  This was the road that we were going to be off of in our rv park.  These homeless people were going to be our neighbors for a week.  Hummmmmm.
As we were driving in, I was really hoping that our rv park was nice.  No such luck.  We pulled in and all we saw was basically what we saw on the streets, with a few nice rv's in the mix.  Scotty went into the office to check us in.  For a week here, we paid almost $800!  This park is by far the most expensive park across the nation that we've been to.
If you are paying a lot of money, you expect a certain quality, right?  Again, no such luck.  The "pull-through" site that we were assigned to was horrible.  All the sites are very close.  Closer than any other park we've been in.  Our site was filled with trash from our neighbors who's sites were also filled with trash and junk.  Oh yea, and it smelled bad.

OK, so we just paid a million dollars to stay a week here (even more than Manhattan), our site is teeny tiny and I feel like I've stepped back in time and am back in a Third World Country.  Wow!  Can it get any worse. Oh yes it did!  The dude next to us had a storage tailer on his site that made it so we couldn't make the turn and pull into our site.  Nope.  We tried but we couldn't get into our site!  Now what?  It was at this point that my emotions started to kick in - I was getting irritated.

After a lot of deliberation and looking into other options, Scotty and I decided to try and back in to our pull through site.  I know, we're crazy.  You would have died if you watch us back Homie into the spot.  It was SO tight.  Some how, we got Homie in with inches to spare.  Other RV'ers who are just passing through like us, came out and were amazed that we pulled it off.  These spots are so tight that when we opened our slides, we were literally like one to two inches away from our neighbor.  It's insane!!!  Because we backed in, all our hook-ups had to go under our trailer.  We were facing the wrong way do to the back-in.  I sure hope the city is worth all this.  My kids better appreciate this stop.

Yucky RV Place - Don't ever come here.

Look at how close our slides are!!

Here we are after we got all backed in.

On the left of Doug is the dumb trailer that blocked our access to our site.

Too close for comfort if you ask me.
We are here for a week.  I'm sure we'll be safe and OK but we set some serious rules for the kids to ensure safety.  Because of the sketchy area, we decided to not take our bikes out of the garage.  This means that we have less living space this week as we can't set up Asher's bed nor the school table in the garage.
Hey!!! It's all part of the journey right?!!  No bad attitudes here.  We are excited to explore the Golden City and educate the kids on homelessness.  Hahahahaha.  They are going to be in shock when they see how bad it is here. Heaven help us this week.

At least beautiful Sunsets are consistent!!!  Even in crappy campgrounds.

  1. Yikes! Be safe. Go to Ghirardelli Square, and Dandelion Chocolate in the Mission District or the Ferry Building.
