One of the locals recommended Pines for the best surfing spot on the Kona side of the island. Scotty rented surf boards and a paddle board from a local surf shop and we hit the beach!!!
Pines is very lava rocky. The sand bar stretched very far out into the ocean so surfing was on a very shallow shoreline. Along the sand bar, were a ton of lava rocks. These lava rocks were no joke. Everyone got cut up. We should have purchased water shoes for everyone but we didn't know how rocky it would be. Nevertheless, the surf was amazing and fun for all. Pines is a very family friendly beach. Lots of kids were out surfing so no locals were acting territorial. This made Scotty and I feel better about having Pepper and Taj out there. All four kids got up on the surf board. Asher and Graham already knew how to surf so it was easy for them. Pepper and Taj went out with Scotty and got up with him. I was in love watching them do this. The kids also boogie boarded and played in the sand.
What a cool day!!!!

After we were all done surfing, we drove the boards back into town - Kona - to give them back. While we were there, we walked around the farmers market and went souvenir shopping!!

Everyone was hungry so we ate at a beach side, bar and grill named Ola Bar and Grill. The food was amazing!!! The cook even came out to talk to us.

This cute gecko was eating a left over cherry. So cute!!

Then we stopped at Scandinavia Shaved Ice - The absolute best shaved ice ever!!!! These guys put your choice of ice cream in the middle of all the shaved ice. Then you get your choice of flavors on the ice. Then we topped it off with sweet and condensed milk. Oh my yummy!!!!!

We sat by the beach and ate our treats!!!
While enjoying our shaved ice, I met this guy named Bamboo. He had a jambe!!! I have one at home. He was impressed that I knew what the drum was called. hahahaha. We chatted and then he played some music for us!!
Then we had to bust it home because Scotty and I had a date night reservation at the Four Seasons!!!!

Pati got the kids dinner and they ate and watched movies. Thank you Pati!!!!
