The little town that we are staying in is called Hermosa. It is about 15 miles south of Rapid City. Hermosa is a tiny country town. Population 330 or something like that. It is so peaceful here. People are friendly and life is slow and enjoyed. On my run this morning, all the locals were on their porches waving at me as I passed their houses. Simple and happy. I am loving the correlation between those two words. I've been pondering on how to keep things simple when we go back to our home in Simi Valley. There is nothing simple about 4 kids in school all day with endless homework and extra curricular activities. Time is a gift from God. I'm so grateful for this time that we have taken control of to spend with our family and block out every thing that takes time away from it. Friends come and go, family is forever. Today was amazing. I took the kids to Custer State Park and we seriously spent all day there. I cannot even begin to explain the beauty of this place and pictures don't do it justice. It is stunning. I felt so much peace walking on the trails and driving on the roads. "I'm glad that I live in this beautiful world, Heavenly Father created for me". :) We started out at the visitors center to get an idea of what to see. The kids immediately found the climbing wall. The rangers were so nice and answered all my questions.

Our first stop was at Legion Lake. We did the hike around the lake. There were plenty of rocks to climb!! Asher was looking for a jump spot to jump into the lake. He concluded that the lake wasn't deep enough and didn't want to be paralyzed the rest of his life so he didn't jump in. He's so smart.

Then we spent the day driving the Wild Life Loop. We saw mountain goats, buffalo (One even crossed the street right in front of us) and donkeys. We did a few more hikes and really enjoyed our day. The donkeys were the favorites of the day.

We drove on this long country road that had a speed limit of 25 so I let Asher drive for a while. He needs to practice. He did great!!
We ended up about 20 minutes from a skate park. Taj wanted to go and the other kids didn't disagree so we drove over there. It was super small and kind of lame but they had fun anyways. Asher road carefully and the other kids tried some cool tricks.

We went home after that because Scotty was done working. Graham found a dirt jump spot in Rapid City and every one wanted to try it. My kids never say die. I was exhausted but they were all ready to go ride bikes. So we packed up the truck with the bikes and spent the twilight hours biking and being eaten alive by mosquitoes. hahahah They all had a blast. The bike park was wet so they got all muddy. I promise that Asher was careful.
