Sunday July 12, 2020 Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Happy Sabbath!!!! We had a great day. It started out with a zoom meeting with our ward back in California. Then we did our own Sacrament meeting and Come Follow Me. Then we packed up and drove through Theodore Roosevelt National Park with my parents.  They were able to follow us up here to see this park.  It's been super fun to have them with us.  We saw some great animals today.  Wild horses were everywhere.  How cool is that??  I guess they have a ton of wild horses that live in this park.  They were beautiful and so elegant. We also saw buffalo, antelope and  prairie dogs. The Little Missouri River runs through the park. Our favorite part of the park was the Coal Vein Trail.  Apparently there  was a coal vein a mile long here.  It caught on fire and burned for about 26 years.  It burned out in 1977 I think.  We walked along the trial where you could see how the smoke escaped the hills.  There is a very distinct burn line of dark colored sand stone.  Scotty found a cave and climbed up to it.  He said it was big enough for 5 people to be in it.  He found tons of coal so fragile that when he touched it, it crumbled.  We all thought that was so cool.  We also enjoyed the different colors of the landscape here. They call this place the Badlands of North Dakota. The landscape is much more colorful then the Badlands in South Dakota.  There are reds, oranges, yellows, greens, blues and even purples.  I understand why Theodore Roosevelt loved it here. You can feel spiritual and calm here.  It's just beautiful country.

This is the cave that Scotty found.

There was a really stinky dead Bison on the trail

After dinner we went for a small bike ride to explore our campground.

  1. We're sorry we missed seeing you at Zoom church. For some reason we can't get the gallery view to come up, so we only see the speakers. I am just in awe at your adventures.
