Monday June 7, 2021- Travel Day to Winthrop Washington

After packing up, we left wonderful Port Angeles to head to Winthrop, Washington.  Winthrop is very close to North Cascades National Park (we thought it was).  We are excited to see all the cascades.

Here we are pulling out of our KOA.  Look at the blue sky.  It's so clear and beautiful.

This is when the trip got a bit crazy!  Both my google maps and my RV map, directed me to Kingston. On the maps, it showed a blue line over the water as if there was a bridge to cross.  When I arrived to the port in Kingston, I saw signs that said that we were on the road to the ferry.  What?  Ferry?  I pulled up to the booth where you had to pay and I asked the guy if there was a bridge that crossed there.  He said no.  Only the ferry crosses there.  I was very confused.  Then we put two and two together and realized that our maps took us to the ferry, and the ferry would take us across the water.  I asked the guy if our trailer would fit on the ferry and he said that yes, they even fit big rigs on it.  Scotty and I decided that it would be faster to cross on the ferry then to go back and down towards Seattle.  So after paying $119, Homie and Doug got to ride on the ferry!!  We went from Kingston to Edmonds Washington.  What an experience that was.

Here we are pulling up to the ferry.

Here we are on the ferry!

What a crazy experience to cross on a ferry with our huge Homie!!

We proceeded on our way after the ferry trip.  A while longer, I saw signs for the visitors center for North Cascades National Park.  The road we were on drove right through the park. Humm.  I didn't expect that.  When we saw the visitors center, we were still an hour and a half away from our campground.  I made an executive decision to make stops in the national park just so we could see parts of it.  We made a bunch of stops with our ginormous Homie.  It was an adventure.  The vistas were incredible.  Apparently, there are tons of glaciers that are still carving this park.

We saw towering mountains, all dressed in evergreens reaching up towards the heavens.  There were powerful cascades rushing down the mountains while joining the emerald lakes below.  There are over 400 miles of hiking trails to be discovered in this national park.  Most of the park is only accessible by the hiking trials.  Because of that, this is the least visited national park.  We were blown away at the elegant beauty of the landscape. If you want to be inspired, come here.

All our stops made for the longest travel day ever.  But, after pulling into our campground, we realized that the national park is way too far away to visit now.  We were super happy that we stopped at all the trails that we did because now we can check that park off of our list.  So if you want to come to this national park, make sure to find a campground closer to the visitors center.  This KOA is great, but way too far away from the park.  After setting up, we ate dinner and relaxed all night.
