Monday June 21, 2021 - Kayaking in Apgar and Boys Bike up to Logans Pass - Glacier National Park

Today's adventure
Glacier National Park Kayaking in Apgar!!!
Seriously, look at the scenery!  And the color of the water!!!  This place!!!!!!

I had to wake the kids up at 10 AM, (You read that right, I had to wake them up at 10 - as I roll my eyes :))) ) to go kayaking out of Apgar.  Apgar is the cutest little water side touristy town off of Lake McDonald.  I rented the kayaks from Glacier Outfitters right there in town.  Glacier Outfitters was super close to the water. They put the kayaks on wheels so that we could roll them out to the water.  Then we all jumped into Lake McDonald for a picture perfect day!

The water was this cool emerald green color.  It gets it color form the water that runs down the mountains.  The water collects bits and pieces of the rock on the mountain.  As the water collects down in the lake, the rock fragments float up at the top of the water and that is what gives the lake the beautiful emerald green color:)).

We had two hours out on the water and it went super fast.  We rowed by an Eagle nesting area and many cute cabins along the lake.  The water was very calm and there was no wind.  Just a beautiful day to be out on the water.

I need an I 💛 Montana shirt after this one.  I really do love Montana and Glacier NP.

She was explaining to us where we should go and where not to go.

Taj rowed for the first hour. . . .

Then he got tired:))). hahaha

We rented two kids kayaks for Taj and Pepper, one double for Asher and I, then one single for Graham.  By the end of the two hours, we had all switched places.

Pepper here!!
The mountains look like a green screen.

When Taj got tired, we put him in my kayak and Asher went on his.  The kids kayak only hold 120 lbs.  Asher weighs like 150.  He was sinking:))).  If he stopped paddling, he sunk.  We all died laughing.  It was so funny and he was being so funny about it.

Pollen in the water.

This is where Pepper got tired:))

This is the Eagle Nesting Ground.

When our two hours were up, we went back to the truck to change into dry clothes and turn in our kayaks.

Then we had to get the local ice cream!!!

After our kayaking adventures, we drove back to the campground and went swimming.  Our KOA has two pools.  One for families and one for adults.  Seriously, this is the best campground ever!!

Flowers along the way to the pool.

Then Asher tried to make his lips look like Homer Simpson's with my cups for PT. Hum. .. should I be worried???

At this point in the day, we split up as a family.  Scotty and the boys went for a bike ride while I stayed at the KOA with Taj and Pepper.

Pepper and Taj had a fun night playing.  They played gaga ball, got their faces painted, played on the swings, hung out with our cool neighbors and enjoyed just being alive!!!

Meanwhile, the boys got on their bikes and headed up to Logans Peak.  So. . . Logans Peak is the highest point along the Going to the Sun Road.  They drove Doug up the Going to the Sun Road, until the road was blocked.  Then they parked Doug and got on their bikes to ride the 16 miles up to Logans Peak.  The best part about this was that the road was closed to cars.  They had the whole road to ride and enjoy the scenery.  16 miles up and 16 miles down.  They climbed 3300 + feet and ended up at 6646 feet in elevation - which happened to be on the continental divide.  Seriously a bucket list ride.  They had a great time and saw mountain goats and other creatures.

P.S. can you see the Homer Simpson lips on Asher??  What a nerd.

Mountain Goats!!

  1. Your family amazes me. After all of the kayaking and swimming the boys still had energy to ride to Logan's Peak. Your new ward calling (Bishop permitting) will be to whip us all into shape. Haha! Seriously, how many times have you reviewed all that you have done this last year? It wouldn't have been the same flying or driving, and you probably would have ended up spending a lot more money. I hope you're planning to write a book.
