Monday May 10, 2021 - Lake Shasta Caverns

Here are a few pictures of our campground and surrounding areas.  The trees are so green and lush.  It doesn't feel like we are in California.  This campground was rated the #1 KOA in the KOA community.  I see why. It's seriously the best campground.  We love our site.  It's huge with the huge patio.

Our adventure today sent us to Lake Shasta Caverns.  Now this was an adventure.  We drove about an hour north on the 5 to get to Lake Shasta.  The caverns are in a pretty crazy place.  You have to cross  Lake Shasta to get to the caverns. Lake Shasta is breathtaking.   Part of our entry ticket, included a boat ride that took us over to the cavern side.

Here we are on the boat crossing the lake to get to the caverns.

Once we got off the boat, they put us in a bus and took us up 2,000 feet to the cavern entrance.  I'm telling you, this was crazy!!  At one point, we were so close to the edge of the cliff that it looked like if we took one wrong move,  we would fall off.

The family against Lake Shasta.

Once at the top, our tour guide took us through the cave.  These caverns were found my a local Indian who was working at the lake.  His job was to chase wild life away from eating all the fish in the lake.  One night he chased a bobcat all the way up the mountain and found the entrance to this cave.  Crazy story right.  I mean, who chases a bob cat for one, and two, who runs up a mountain.  Hahahaha

Here are pictures from this cavern.  It wasn't the most ornate cavern but still amazing in it's own wonderful way.  My dad had the kids laughing the whole time.  I'm sure our group thought we were all crazy.

The signature of the man who found the cave.

This is the view of the lake we had upon exiting the cave. The color of the water against the color of the sand makes this lake one of a kind.

It looks so unreal!!

We took the bus and the boat back to our starting point.

The boys spent the rest of the day building bike jumps back in the forest by our campsite.  They did a really good job. Their jumps launched them super high.
