Asher accompanied me on my run this morning. The huge Colgate clock sure is something. I ran along the riverwalk. I thought is was called the boardwalk, but it is called the riverwalk. It literally goes for miles and miles in both directions. I see people running on it at all times of the day and even the night. It is a runners paradise!!!!
My magnet collection now takes up one of the freezer doors on my fridge. Every time we look at it, we talk about the memories that we have from that place. Pikes Peak 😂
Our New York adventure included our bikes today!! We decided to take our bikes to use as transportation because how cool is that to ride your bike through the city!!! We had to catch the ferry at a different stop because the one by our campground doesn't run on the weekends. Weird. So we had to bike up the riverwalk about 4 miles to get to the ferry. On our way, we passed by the skatepark that we hit yesterday. The kids stopped to ride for a bit before heading across the Hudson.
Castle Point SkatePark in Hoboken.
To answer Shelley's question, we find all our skateparks on google. We Just google "skateparks near me" and they all show up. The kids look at pictures and then decided which ones they want to hit!!
I believe that we made it to the 1:20 PM ferry that took us to New York City. The Ferry had bike racks so that people could take their bikes across to the city. Today was sunny and a bit crisp. Light jackets kept us warm all day.
Once in Manhattan, we rode our bikes to LES Coleman Skatepark. Taj is still a little guy and is a bit of a loose cannon on his bike, so we put him on the tag-a-long all day for safety. I had no idea that New York had these great bike lanes all over the city. They are everywhere. It is awesome because we can bike on the bike lane, away from the cars, and get to where we want to go without too much stress. The kids followed our directions for safety. We told them to stay in a single file line with Scotty leading and me taking up the rear. They did great and it brought the New York experience up to a different level because we were able to see and explore places that we didn't know existed.
Pier 62 Skatepark
After the skatepark, we headed back on the bike path towards the Air and Space Museum, or the Intrepid Museum.
This museum was the absolute bomb. We got to see the Intrepid, the Enterprise and go inside the Growler.
The Intrepid is a aircraft carrier. It was launched in 1943 to fight in World War II. It survived two kamikaze attacks and one torpedo strike. The ship later served in the Cold War and the Vietnam War. Later it served as a NASA recovery vessel in the 1960's. The whole museum was on and in this ship. We got to see the flight deck, the gallery deck, the hangar deck, the living quarters, and so much more. Quite the experience!!
The Enterprise was the first orbiter of the Space Shuttle system. We have seen the Endeavour in L.A. so to see the Enterprise was really cool.
The Flight Deck of the Intrepid with great views.
The Navigation and Flag Bridges of the Intrepid
Our Go New York Tickets have been the best. We got the tickets for this museum super cheap.
The USS Growler. The only submarine that is a museum in the world.
The USS Growler carried 4 nuclear missiles. They were never launched.
The longest mission on the USS Growler was 72 days.
Could you live in a submarine for 72 days? Not me!!
Going inside!!
We had 5 of these metal "doors" we had to go through. My kids decided to slide through them instead of walk 😂😂😂
Back out in the sunlight!!
After the museum, we only had a few hours of sunlight so we decided to bike up to Central Park then bike back to our ferry. We stayed on the bike paths and really enjoyed this. The kids all said that they never thought they'd be biking through the Big Apple;)))
Here we are back at the dock to catch the ferry. Scotty said that we biked over 20 miles today. But at this point, we still weren't done! We had to bike back to our trailer once the ferry dropped us off in Hoboken.
The kids couldn't help themselves. We passed by Castle Point Skatepark and they wanted to ride it again, so we pulled over to let them ride for a few minutes.
We finished our ride back to the trailer safely. The riverwalk was lit and not too busy. We actually rode back super fast because we knew where to go and all the turns to take. Everyone arrived home exhausted and hungry. We ate food from a sketchy place called Goldy's Fried Chicken Spot, boy was it delicious.
What a great day!!!!
