Asher got me out the door today to go running. It's so fun to go with my boys one at a time. I get one on one time with them. My boys are the best!!
I know that leaning about the Holocaust isn't the funnest thing. In fact, it's down right stomach turning. I felt that it was VERY important for my kids to understand what led up to the Holocaust and how it all rolled out. The lives lost during this event can't be forgotten. Basic human rights cannot and should not be taken away for any reason. It's sad that it took the Holocaust for the world to understand this.
Prior to our visit, the kids were researching about the Holocaust and Hitler. It made it more real for them to go already knowing basically what had happened. Our visit was heavy. We learned a lot and heard a lot of stories from survivors. We saw many heart breaking things.
Each square represents a Jewish community that was destroyed by Nazis. These are only a fraction of the communities lost to hate.

This is a drawing from a three year old boy who was killed right after he drew this picture.

400 laws went out against Jews. These are only a few of them. It basically was a crime to be a Jew.

Cattle train car where 100-150 jews were forced in to be deported. No food, no water and no way to go to the bathroom.
And again kindness wins. No matter what trials we encounter in this life, kindness will help us and others survive.
1,000's of kids were rescued.

These butterflies represent all the children killed during the Holocaust.

My kids walked away with a huge appreciation for human rights. May we all be kind and loving so that this never happens again.
We needed some exercise and our happy place, so we went to the closest skatepark. It was crowded but once Asher did his backflip and Graham did his 360, all the locals were cool with us :))).

That is so amazing that you got to got and see all the terrible things that happend, it make you think how blessed we all are, I wish I could have been there with you all, maybe I would have goten a better grade in my history class if I was with you HAHAHA
ReplyDeleteBTW this is Sofie
What a wonderful place to learn about such tragic events. Prayers that our society and country never even hint about going in that direction.
ReplyDeleteOf course the locals would make room for your rockstar kids. Did they sign autographs? 😉
