Monday February 15, 2021 - Lost Mine Trail Big Bend

Asher was my body guard today as I ran.  It's so fun to be able to run into a National Park!!  And look at this beautiful sunny day!!! After all the snow yesterday we were very happy to see the sun shining!!

I have to say that today was probably our favorite day in Big Bend.  We drove to a new section of the park that we haven't been to yet.  Instead of desert landscape, we were surrounded by winter green trees who were still holding on to the snow from the previous day.  Can you say breathtaking?  Oh yes, this was breathtaking.  The drive up to our trail reminded me of  our drive in Colorado through the mountains, just gorgeous.

Scotty had today off because of Presidents Day.  We took advantage of having him with us and did the longest, hardest trail that we wanted to do.  The Lost Mine trial ascended the volcanic mountain, 2.5 miles up to the very top, then 2.5 down for a total of 5 miles.  Parts were still very much full of snow.  Other parts were wet due to the melted snow.  The rising views astounded us.  One couldn't help but see God's hands in the landscape.  At one point I think my mind said that National Parks are Gods works of art.  ALL the kids ascended the mountain with speed and strong minds.  I am so impressed with how strong my kids have gotten on this trip.  Not just physically, but mentally and spiritually.  MY work and MY glory is to see my children improve and become more Christlike.

They couldn't help themselves but play in the snow on the way up.

I love this picture of P.  She has seriously shines in the strength department!!

My hearts!!

My Love!!

King of the Mountain!!

Sibling love!!

View from the top

The clouds here blanketing the valley.  This speaks to my soul!!

At the top, we sat down for lunch

The hike down was very easy, I mean, we were running down hill.  We passed a couple all decked out with walking sticks and hiking boots.  They were surprised to see my little Taj who had just conquered the Lost Mine Trail.

These are pictures of our drive back to Homie

P and I being silly in the truck.  National Parks have given our family so many bonding moments.  I will forever be grateful for the grand wisdom of the people who advocated to make National Parks!!!
