Saturday February 20, 2021 - Carlsbad Caverns AND Guadeloupe Mountain National Park

I ran around our KOA this morning because there are no safe streets to run on near us.  Here are a few pictures!!

Isn't this a cool bus!!

We were feeling very ambitious today!!  Two national parks in one day.  Go us!!!

The first park was Carlsbad Caverns Nation Park. We've been to a lot of caverns on this trip.  This one by far had the most to see.  The cavern goes 700 feet under ground.  It is as deep as the Empire State Building.  To get in you have to take switch backs all the way down.  Then you continue on the switch backs even deeper.  It's crazy!!  The last room at the very end of the cave,  is  called the Big Room - I think.  To walk around this room, it was a mile alone!!  The entire room was full of stalagmites, stalactites, columns and draperies.  Full I tell you.  Growth everywhere.  No wonder why it's one of the Seven Wonders of the World.  When you are done with the tour, you don't walk up 700 feet. hahaha.  They have an elevator that takes you up from the bottom.  Crazy right??  An elevator in a cave.  Anyways, enjoy my billions of pictures!!!!

This is an amphitheater where you can watch the bats fly out at night.  They only fly out during the months of May-October so we missed it
:(

Switch Back Heaven.

Heart!!

The classic picture of Taj!!

Pepper joined in the laying down pictures.

Waiting for the elevator

We were all famished after, so we found a picnic place and ate our lunches

Guadeloupe Mountain NP is seriously close, we drove around 30 minutes to get there.

National Park number 2!!  This park is another hikers paradise.  We only had a few hours of sunlight so we chose a 2.5 mile hike to do.  Beautiful!!!!  Our national parks are a must do!!!

Taj fell down and got an ouchie.

Prickly Pear Taffy!!! We picked it up at the visitors center.

Then Pepper fell down and banged her knee.  She's OK

The sun was setting on our way home.  Today was magnificent!!!  And now we are tired :))

  1. Wow, awesome caverns! I’m glad you made it safely out of the snow. Texas got hit hard this week and I wondered if you guys were affected and had inter. Safe travels!
