We stayed up late last night packing the trailer in the rain, then we got up early to drive to Colorado Springs, well, Woodland Park - super close to Colorado Springs. The reason why we put this stop in our itinerary was so that Graham could tour the Air Force Academy. We will do that later next week. So, we learned something today that we already knew. Shoot, we already took action to make sure that we didn't do what we did today. I have no idea how we did what we did. Curious????? Our trailer is 44 feet long. It weighs 16,000 lbs - dry. It's huge. Then you add our truck. It's about 15 feet long and weighs 8,000 lbs. So..... With everything in the trailer we are probably driving down the street at 25,000 lbs. It's no joke people. We have to be careful and watch for low hanging trees, low hanging power lines and any street that we won't be able to get out of. In all my research that I've done, I have heard over and over again to NOT use the regular "car" map directions from your phone. Every RV person recommends some sort of special app that is specifically for RV'ers. The app that most people seem to like is called CoPilot. It routes you were your RV will fit and on roads that are safe for you to drive on. I purchased this app before we left on our trip and we’ve been using it. It’s great!! Back to this morning......Scotty and I were so tired from a late night and then the early departure. I was driving - I usually drive so Scotty can work. When we prepared to leave this morning I pulled up my maps from my phone and got the directions to where we were going. After about 10 miles we were on this windy mountain road. The road was narrow and had many tight turns. I had to drive so slow because of the sharp turns and the elevation gain that we were making. Scotty and I looked at the map and realized that we used the maps for cars, not RV's. OOPS. There was no way that we could have turned our huge rig around so we kept moving forward. After what seemed like an eternity, Scotty found a 2 lane highway that took us back up toward Denver so we could get back on the major highways. We had to back track a bit but it was worth it. That was a real mindless thing that we did. Silly us. I'm just so glad that we got off those roads when we did and were able to fix our mistake. Won't do that one again. :))) We arrived in Woodland Park 2 hours earlier than our check in was so we parked at one of our churches that we found just down the road from our camp ground until we could check in.
Then it was time for us to check in!!!! As if we hadn't already had enough excitement for the day, I got us in to a huge pickle. Remember I said that it's hard to turn our rig around? Well, I turned into the wrong parking lot. Instead of turning into our campground parking lot, I turned one turn too early. It was tight but my sweet Scotty backed us out of it. I was so proud of him. He's my hero.
After all that stress, we finally pulled into our woodsy camp ground right in the middle of a lightning and thunder storm. Can we just pause here and laugh a little. Seriously!!!! It was pouring rain and we had to set up the trailer in the freezing, wet rain. Needless to say, We are both tired and a little grumpy.

On a positive note, there is a cute play ground here so the kids went and spent lots of time playing and meeting new friends. I love camp ground kids. No matter how old you are, you can all play and be friends!!!!

The theme of today is: Sarah gets the family into trouble, Scotty gets them out. Hahaha. Now if you don't mind, I am going to crash and prepare for an awesome run tomorrow so I can burn off today :)))))
